PSA has completed RIBA Stage 4 detailed design for the new Zoe’s Place baby hospice in Liverpool, and main contractor Krol Corlett Construction has now been appointed, marking a major step forward towards construction beginning on site.

Zoe’s Place is a hospice dedicated to babies and children aged 0–5 with life-limiting and complex conditions. With the lease ending on its current premises, a purpose-built facility was needed quickly, one that could meet the highly specialised clinical, therapeutic and family support needs that make Zoe’s Place so unique.

The charity has been through a tumultuous time on the journey through fundraising in order to secure it’s new home. Everyone at PSA is happy to see it on it’s way to completion.

The new £6m building in Liverpool will provide treatment rooms designed for complex medical requirements, sensory spaces, a hydrotherapy pool, and comfortable accommodation where families can stay while their child receives care. The brief was clear, create a building that feels like a home, not a hospital.

PSA’s Role

PSA joined the design team to lead the mechanical and electrical design, working alongside healthcare specialists to deliver fully integrated building services. Our work at Stage 4 covers:

    • Zoned heating and cooling systems with precise temperature control for clinical areas

    • Ventilation systems engineered for optimal air quality and infection control

    • Energy-efficient lighting designed for both clinical requirements and comforting environments

    • Comprehensive power distribution to support specialist medical equipment

    • Advanced safety and security systems

    • Specialised mechanical services for the hydrotherapy pool facility

The completed services design will operate quietly in the background, maintaining precise environmental conditions, supporting complex care equipment, and above all creating the calm, welcoming atmosphere that is fundamental to the Zoe’s Place philosophy of holistic family support.

More Than a Project

Our involvement with Zoe’s Place extends beyond the design work. Following our appointment as Building Services Engineers, we were moved by the situation the charity was in and wanted to do more to help.

Last year, PSA joined The 150, a fundraising group established by Zoe’s Place where members commit to raising £1,000 each. We are proud to say that through our fundraising efforts, we exceeded that target and raised £1,267 for the charity.

Kate Clarke and Jimmy Dobson Joined The 150 for Zoes Place

We are privileged to be part of a project that will provide such vital care to some of the most vulnerable children and their families. With contractor now appointed and detailed design complete, we look forward to seeing Zoe’s Place Liverpool become a reality.
