In Lancashire, Crow Wood Hotel & Spa sought to use its extensive grounds for sustainable energy generation.
As a result, PSA provided Solar PV Consultancy services to support the implementation of a 900kW solar PV installation. Consequently, the installation now generates significant power for the site, encompassing the hotel, spa, restaurant and equine facilities.
Furthermore, our team’s long-standing relationship and understanding of the site meant we could provide a thorough review of the design proposals and infrastructure planning. Consequently, reducing both operating costs and saving 196 Tonnes of carbon per annum.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES
Crow Wood Hotel & Spa is a luxury resort comprising of spa facilities, hotel rooms and five restaurants. As part of its wider sustainability ambitions, it identified an opportunity to maximise its expansive grounds by installing solar PV panels to power the site. The leadership team recognised that a renewable energy solution could significantly reduce operational costs across its diverse facilities while supporting its environmental goals. To achieve this, the client partnered with a third party solar energy provider, Low Carbon Energy, to develop a 900kW solar PV array that would serve its whole site including an equine centre. In addition, the client required a technical advisor to help support the installation.
OUR SOLUTION
To support these objectives, PSA acted as the client’s technical agent and sustainability advisor, PSA ensured the project maintained high standards throughout the design process. Our engineering team, who have extensive knowledge of the whole site due to a 20+ year relationship, conducted detailed reviews of the supplier’s proposals and facilitated design review meetings between all stakeholders. Furthermore, we developed integrated strategies for:
- Below ground service integration
- HV/LV distribution routing and design specifications
- LV switchboard configuration
- LV switch room layout and requirements
- Comprehensive review of PV system proposals
THE OUTCOME
As a result, the successful 2,200 panel installation has equipped Crow Wood with a 900kW solar PV array that effectively powers its operations. The system now offsets 27% of Crow Wood’s electricity demand while generating nearly 900,000 kWh of energy annually. In addition, it reduces carbon emissions by 196 tonnes of CO₂ each year.
