CLIENT OBJECTIVES
Our client envisioned converting a disused golf course in Westbury, Wiltshire, into a thriving, eco-conscious holiday and leisure facility. Their core values centred around sustainability, with a strong desire to minimise the site’s carbon footprint. The challenge was to create a serene, rural getaway that would respect and enhance the natural beauty of the area while employing green technologies and practices throughout the development.
OUR SOLUTION
PSA embarked on this £4.3m project by designing a bespoke mechanical and electrical systems for the accommodation buildings, adopting a fabric-first approach to maximise energy efficiency through enhanced insulation. Air source heat pumps were integrated into individual blocks, while the central building, housing the café and events area in phase two, was designed with a ground source heat pump utilising ground loops. Given the site’s remote location, we also guided the client through various electricity supply options, balancing practicality with budget constraints.
THE OUTCOME
Our designs for both phases were delivered successfully, with PSA overseeing the construction of phase one accommodation. The completed cottages embody sustainability without compromising on comfort or aesthetics. While budget considerations have paused phase two, the realised portion of Thoulstone Eco Leisure Park stands as a testament to harmonious co-existence with nature, offering guests an immersive, eco-friendly retreat.
