CIENT OBJECTIVES

Rossendale Borough Council aims to redevelop the current Bacup Market area into a vibrant hub for eating, drinking and entertainment. The vision is to create a space retaining historic site charm while introducing modern, sustainable community-focused elements. The goal is encouraging locals to spend more time in the revitalised area day and night.

OUR SOLUTION

Working in close partnership with the design team, PSA undertook a comprehensive electrical and mechanical design for the Bacup Market site.

Our input spanned multiple areas vital to the project’s success, including:

  • Energy efficiency considerations
  • Ventilation system design
  • Vehicle charging points
  • Tailored lighting plans
  • Electrical supply
  • Water supply infrastructure

We also extensively explored incorporating renewable energy sources, evaluating options such as ground source heat pumps and carrying out feasibility studies with solar panel manufacturers for potential rooftop photovoltaic installations.

Crucially, extensive coordination and dialogue took place with utility providers like Electricity North West and United Utilities to carefully plan any required diversions, rearrangements, and disconnections of existing services to facilitate properly supplying the redeveloped site with all necessary utilities.

THE OUTCOME

The project progresses well towards creating a vibrant hub honouring Bacup Market’s past while embracing the future. The redevelopment features cycle hubs, banking pop-ups, outdoor entertainment, street food vendors and shopping – reinvigorating the area by fusing historic charm with sustainable, modern amenities.
