PSA took on an exciting project to transform a college facility into a new learning environment. As the employer’s representative, we developed initial design concepts, conducted a BREEAM assessment, and oversaw the contractor’s proposals. The result? A facility boasting high-spec engineering workshops, labs, and classrooms. This project not only enhanced the college’s educational offerings but also strengthened its partnerships with industry employers, all while achieving BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES
Our client approached us with a vision to create a modern, industry-aligned learning space. They wanted to expand their capabilities, offering students access to top-notch engineering workshops and laboratories. The goal was to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering stronger partnerships with employers. Additionally, the client was keen on achieving BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable building practices.
OUR SOLUTION
Our team completed designs on a range of advanced systems, including Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR), radiant and underfloor heating, and specialised gas and compressed air installations for the workshops. We also sorted out fume cupboard ventilation, kitted out the space with general power and data installations, and installed energy-efficient LED lighting with smart controls. To round it off, we incorporated CCTV, fire and security systems, a lift, and even a photovoltaic solar panels to boost the building’s green credentials.
Our design included:
- MVHR ventilation
- Radiant and underfloor heating
- Gases and compressed air installations
- Fume cupboard ventilation
- General power & data installations
- LED lighting, emergency lighting and controls
- CCTV, fire and security systems
- Photovoltaic installation
- Lift installation
