About this project

New Build M&E for Over 55s Extra Care Residential Block. PSA provided comprehensive building services for Jubilee Gardens, a new Extra Care residential development for over 55s. The project includes 75 one and two bedroom apartments, designed to support independent living with on-site facilities. Our team delivered a full mechanical and electrical design, incorporating sustainable technologies like solar PV panels, electric vehicle charging, and heat pumps. We’re also overseeing the construction phase with weekly site inspections, ensuring the contractor’s work meets the highest standards.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES

South Ribble Council required a residential facility that would enable older adults to maintain their independence while having access to care when needed. This meant incorporating modern amenities like a café and hair salon, alongside energy-efficient systems to keep running costs manageable.

 

OUR SOLUTION

PSA was appointed the MEP Designer for the team working alongside the architect and main contractor Caddick. Our team developed a comprehensive mechanical and electrical designs for the building services up to RIBA Stage 4 and sustainability reports to assess energy options.

We integrated cutting-edge sustainable technologies, including:

  • 50kW solar PV panels to harness renewable energy
  • Electric vehicle charging points to future-proof the site
  • Efficient heat pumps for comfortable,
  • Low-carbon heating and cooling

 

Beyond the design phase, we’re now providing Clerk of Works services, conducting weekly site inspections to ensure the contractor’s work aligns with the design for Jubilee Gardens.

 

THE OUTCOME

The project is now underway, with Caddick Construction as the Main Contractor bringing the project to fruition. As construction progresses, we’re seeing it take shape, promising a vibrant and supportive community for future residents. Completion of the site is due Spring 2025.

The three individual Air Source Heat Pumps, connected in parallel will deliver a total heat output of 440 kW. The heat pumps will serve 75 residential units, a pavilion and a café.

The site has achieved BREEAM Excellent rating.
