Jeremiah Observatory

About this project

Bringing iconic astrological site back to it’s former glory. Once a museum exhibit for 25 years, the observatory required restoration for full functionality. PSA’s report and subsequent works successfully enabled the observatory’s rotation, reopening, and adaptation of its fire alarm system. Through collaborative efforts with the client, PSA assessed and proposed solutions for the observatory’s needs. Following the report’s delivery, the observatory underwent necessary works, transforming it into a fully operational facility.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES

The former observatory, which had been serving as a museum exhibit for about 25 years following the breakdown of its dome’s functionality, was to be restored back to full operation.

OUR SOLUTION

Pettit Singleton Associates took on the task of preparing a comprehensive report outlining the necessary steps to restore functionality to the dome, allowing it to rotate and open once more.

Our team engaged in site visits, collaborating closely with the client to understand their vision for the observatory’s future functionality.

We presented various options, including battery and manual operation for the dome door, while also addressing complexities such as adapting the recently installed fire alarm system to accommodate a rotating dome.

THE OUTCOME

After providing the report to the client, our efforts culminated in the successful completion of the required works. Now, the observatory stands fully operational, ready to resume its astronomical pursuits.
