Embracing Sustainable Hospitality. PSA delivered mechanical and electrical engineering design to help our client, Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, to achieve its sustainability goals with a hybrid heating solution.
CLIENT: Gilpin Hotel & Lake House
LOCATION: The Lakes, Cumbria
SERVICES: Mechanical & Electrical Design
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, a historic Georgian country house built in 1901, has undergone extensive refurbishments and expansions over the years. The hotel’s management team recognised the need to modernise its heating system while minimising disruption to the property’s appearance. The primary objective, to install a biomass boiler system that would not only reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint but also comply with the Renewable Heat Incentive regulations.
OUR SOLUTION
PSA’s team of experts designed a comprehensive solution that met the Gilpin Hotel’s requirements. We proposed the installation of a 300kW Ariterm Arimax Bio biomass boiler, complemented by a 250kW oil-fired backup boiler. This hybrid system ensures reliable and efficient heating, while the biomass boiler’s renewable fuel source significantly reduces the hotel’s environmental impact.
To seamlessly integrate the new heating infrastructure, we carefully planned the installation of the biomass boilerroom and the underground district heating pipework. Our design minimised disruption to the hotel’s operations and maintained the property’s picturesque aesthetic.
The design included:
- Hybrid biomass and Oil fired boiler
- Heating, ventilation and cooling
- Lighting and power
THE OUTCOME
The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House’s new biomass heating system has been a resounding success. The hotel now benefits from a sustainable and cost-effective heating solution that aligns with its commitment to environmental responsibility. The project has also enabled the hotel to comply with the Renewable Heat Incentive regulations, securing additional financial incentives for their investment in green technology.
