Your Housing Group – Solar PV Project for Ryfields

About this project

PSA carried out feasibility, Stage 3 design and delivery support services for a large-scale rooftop Solar PV installation at Ryfields Retirement Village as part of a wider refurbishment programme.

The project formed part of broader upgrade works to the building, including a full re-roofing scheme, which created an opportunity to incorporate renewable energy technology efficiently within the overall construction programme. By coordinating the Solar PV installation alongside the roofing works, the project benefited from shared access arrangements and reduced additional installation costs.

The completed scheme delivered a 112.64kWp rooftop Solar PV array designed to maximise onsite energy usage and support the client’s long term sustainability objectives while improving operational energy performance across the retirement village.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES

The client appointed PSA to initially assess the viability of Solar PV technology at Ryfields Retirement Village before progressing the scheme through technical design and support of delivery stages as part of the wider refurbishment works.

A key objective was to improve the building’s energy efficiency and reduce operational energy costs while taking advantage of the planned re-roofing works. Incorporating Solar PV within the wider project allowed access and arrangements to be shared across both projects.

The client wanted the system sized to make the best use of the electricity generated onsite while staying within budget and minimising disruption to residents.

OUR SOLUTION

PSA completed the initial feasibility assessment before progressing the project through Stage 3 design and delivery support as part of the wider refurbishment programme.

The project developed from what was proposed in the feasibility into a significantly larger Solar PV installation, which was integrated within the planned roofing works. PSA coordinated the building services design requirements, supported system integration with the existing electrical infrastructure and worked alongside the wider project team to help facilitate delivery within a live residential environment.

The final installed system incorporated multiple roof mounted arrays positioned to optimise energy generation and onsite consumption while working within the practical constraints of the building layout and roof configuration.

Project elements included:

  • Initial Solar PV feasibility assessment
  • Stage 3 design and technical coordination
  • Electrical infrastructure coordination and connection
  • Rooftop Solar PV layout development
  • Delivery support and contractor coordination
  • Compliance with current electrical and building regulations
  • Consideration of long-term maintenance and operational performance

THE OUTCOME

The project delivered a 112.64kWp roof mounted Solar PV installation comprising 352 panels across the building rooftop. The system was designed to maximise onsite energy usage while supporting the client’s wider carbon reduction and sustainability objectives.

The completed installation is forecast to generate approximately 107,195kWh of electricity annually while avoiding an estimated 23 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The scheme forms part of the client’s wider investment into improving the energy performance and long-term resilience of its housing portfolio.
