PSA provided feasibility, Stage 3 design and delivery support services for a rooftop Solar PV installation at Brunswick as part of a wider refurbishment project to the building.
The wider programme included a full re-roofing scheme, creating an opportunity to incorporate Solar PV technology efficiently within the planned construction works. As roof access was already required by the main contractor for the roofing works, the Solar PV installation benefited from shared access arrangements and reduced additional installation costs.
The completed design supported the installation of a 100kW rooftop Solar PV system comprising 280 panels, helping improve the building’s energy performance while supporting the client’s wider sustainability objectives.
CLIENT: Your Housing Group
LOCATION: Sheffield
NO. OF PANELS: 288
SYSTEM OUTPUT: 106.56 kW
ANNUAL GENERATION: Approximately 95,000 to 100,000 kWh*
ESTIMATED ANNUAL CARBON SAVING: Approximately 43,748 kg / year
SERVICES: Feasibility, Energy Consultancy, Electrical Design & Onsite Inspection
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
The client appointed PSA to assess the viability of Solar PV technology as part of the wider refurbishment and re-roofing works to the building.
The aim was to improve energy efficiency and reduce long term electricity costs while making practical use of the roofing works already planned as part of the wider project. The client also wanted the Solar PV system sized to make the best use of the electricity generated onsite while remaining within the available project budget.
In addition to the initial feasibility work, the project required detailed performance design and delivery support to help coordinate the installation within the wider refurbishment programme.
OUR SOLUTION
PSA completed the initial feasibility study before progressing the scheme through Stage 3 design and delivery duties as part of the wider project team.
The Solar PV installation was carefully coordinated alongside the re-roofing works to maximise efficiency during construction and minimise unnecessary duplication of access arrangements. PSA developed the building services design and technical coordination required to integrate the system with the existing electrical infrastructure while supporting the appointed contractor through delivery.
Project elements included:
- Initial Solar PV feasibility assessment
- Stage 3 performance design and technical coordination
- Rooftop Solar PV layout development
- Electrical infrastructure coordination
- Delivery support and contractor liaison
- Compliance with current electrical and building regulations
THE OUTCOME
The completed project delivered a 100kW roof mounted Solar PV installation comprising 280 panels across the building rooftop. The system was designed to improve energy performance, reduce reliance on grid electricity and support the client’s wider carbon reduction goals.
The installation is estimated to generate approximately 98,000kWh of electricity annually while saving around 21 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. By delivering the Solar PV works as part of the wider re-roofing programme, the project also benefited from improved construction efficiency and shared access arrangements.
