CLIENT OBJECTIVES

The NCIC Community Estates team which manages various sites across Cumbria such as the Carlisle Cancer Centre, required support to maintain safe systems of work for asbestos management. This required:

  • Establishing robust Safe Systems of Work for asbestos identification and control
  • Partnering with a team experienced in healthcare environments
  • Maintaining high safety standards through expert guidance

 

OUR SOLUTION

We developed a comprehensive approach to developing and advising on the hospital’s standard operating procedures for asbestos management.

Our role encompasses assessing the Trust’s Authorising Person and conducting thorough audits of Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work Systems.

We maintain meticulous documentation reviews and provide clear guidance on necessary improvements.

The team delivers annual audits and remain readily available for consultation, offering practical advice and responding promptly to technical queries.

We developed a comprehensive asbestos management program, including:

  • Authorising Persons assessment
  • Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work audits
  • Documentation review and improvement guidance
  • Standard operating procedures development

THE OUTCOME

The partnership continues to strengthen through reliable service delivery and practical NHS experience. Our integrated approach, combining asbestos management expertise with broader risk assessment capabilities, provides comprehensive support across building services. The Trust has expanded our role to include additional Authorising Engineer services for LV/HV electrical systems, confined spaces, and working at heights requirements.
