Orchard Cottage is a historic property nestled in the heart of the Lake District National Park. This quaint, detached cottage with a separate annexe has been carefully renovated to balance its original 17th century character with modern living needs. The project involved a full M&E overhaul, high-end finishes, and thoughtful integration of the property’s stunning natural surroundings.

CLIENT OBJECTIVES

The owners of Orchard Cottage sought to transform this dilapidated, yet charming, Jacobean-era cottage into a holiday rental home. The aim was to preserve the property’s rich history and architectural features while upgrading the building services and finishes to create a high-quality, future-proof living space.

 

OUR SOLUTION

We worked closely with the owners to develop a comprehensive design that honoured the cottage’s heritage while meeting the modern lifestyle requirements. Key elements of our solution included:

  • Full mechanical and electrical overhaul, including new heating, lighting, and power systems
  • Upgrading the kitchen with high-end fixtures and appliances
  • Integrating underfloor heating in the bathrooms
  • Restoring original features like exposed beams and a large fireplace

 

THE OUTCOME

Orchard Cottage now blends its timeless charm with contemporary comfort and functionality. The owners have created a beautiful holiday Let. The property’s restored character, combined with its modern amenities and stunning natural setting, make it a true gem in the Lake District.
