CLEINT OBJECTIVES
The client sought to convert the Former Iron Works, changing it into a residential development with up to 48 homes, including 5 affordable units. They needed a comprehensive mechanical and electrical services design that would modernise the stone buildings while preserving their character. The challenge was to create comfortable, energy-efficient living spaces that met current standards and regulations, all while working within the constraints of a Scheduled Monument.
OUR SOLUTION
Our team at PSA designed and supervised the installation of state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems throughout the development. We implemented an 800 kVA sub-station and central metering rooms to efficiently distribute power.
Each home was equipped with:
- LED lighting,
- Electric heating with wireless controls
- Hot water systems manageable via mobile apps
We also designed:
- A site-wide CCTV system
- Communal fire alarms
- Emergency lighting with remote monitoring capabilities
To future-proof the development, we incorporated broadband fibre and TV/SKY infrastructure.
THE OUTCOME
The Former Iron Works has been successfully transformed into a modern residential community that honours its industrial heritage. The new homes boast energy-efficient systems and smart technology, providing residents with comfortable, controllable living environments. Our carefully designed services seamlessly blend with the historic architecture, demonstrating that cutting-edge amenities can coexist with preserved structures.
