CLIENT OBJECTIVES
As part of the lifecycle upgrades, the client needed a full refurbishment of the Keswick Ward at Edenfield Mental Health Facility in Prestwich. This was phase two of the project and PSA had been involved in completing the design of the previous phase refurbishment which included the activity areas. This phase included the bedroom fit out on the ward.
OUR SOLUTION
PSA completed a full mechanical and electrical design for the new en-suite bedrooms, staff quarters and amenities. With the hospital fully operational, patients had to be temporarily relocated to other wards to allow a full strip out of existing services. The building’s age presented challenges when rerouting services to accommodate the new en-suites while ensuring adequate drainage. Electrical systems also required careful routing to integrate with fire-stopping and escape route provisions. As a mental health facility, extra considerations included specification of anti-ligature fixtures, staff attack alarm systems and local isolation for power, lighting and water services. PSA’s design seamlessly incorporated these specialised requirements.

THE OUTCOME
The project was delivered to a high quality and the ward remains in good use by the patients at the hospital with new break out spaces, en-suites and amenities. The upgrades have improved the patient experience and safety standards within the mental health environment.
