PSA Takes on the Big One: Scaling New Heights for Charity

Our recent charity challenge saw us swap our usual tools for hiking boots as we took on the iconic Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It’s not every day that you get to climb one of Europe’s tallest rollercoasters, but that’s exactly what eight members of our team did, all in the name of charity.

A Sky-High Adventure

On a clear but windy day, our team of eight embarked on the ascent of the Big One. This isn’t your average stroll in the park—we’re talking about scaling 200 feet and conquering 420 steps to reach the summit of this rollercoaster.

Reaching the top was an awe inspiring moment for all of us. The spectacular views that greeted us were well worth the climb. Blackpool stretched out before us, with all the iconic landmarks, and the sun beginning to set It was a beautiful reminder of why we love what we do—creating and maintaining the buildings and infrastructure that make up these superb views.

A Lesson in Rollercoaster History

While catching our breath at the top, we were treated to a fascinating impromptu talk by the knowledgeable staff of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. They entertained us with tales of the park’s history and shared interesting facts about the various rollercoasters below.

More Than Just a Climb

This wasn’t just about conquering a rollercoaster or enjoying a team-building exercise. Our Walk the Big One challenge had a greater purpose—raising funds for Shelter, a worthy charity. We’re thrilled to announce that thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we raised an impressive £2,547.50 for this cause.

Shelter: A Vital Lifeline

For those unfamiliar with Shelter’s work, Shelter is a UK charity that campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing. They provide advice, support, and legal services to those facing housing issues or homelessness. From offering practical assistance to individuals and families in crisis to lobbying for policy changes at a national level, Shelter works tirelessly to ensure everyone has a safe, secure, and affordable place to call home.

Their work aligns closely with our values at PSA. As building services engineers, we understand the importance of creating safe, comfortable, and efficient spaces for people to live and work. Supporting Shelter allows us to extend our impact beyond our professional projects and contribute to addressing one of society’s most pressing issues.

PSA: Building on a Strong Foundation

This charity challenge is just one example of how we at PSA strive to make a positive impact, both through our professional work and our community engagement. Founded in 1989, we’ve built our reputation as Chartered Engineers specialising in Building Services. Our expertise spans Mechanical and Electrical design, Project Management, Energy Conservation, Surveys, Clerk of Works, and Compliance—all delivered in-house by our dedicated team.

As we look back on our Big One adventure, we’re reminded of the importance of pushing boundaries, working together, and giving back to our community. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support Shelter’s vital work, and we look forward to taking on more challenges—both professional and charitable—in the future.

Thank you to everyone who supported us to raise much needed funds for Shelter.
